Meet our director
Michele Richardson, also known as Ms. Rich, is the Theatre teacher at Upland High School. She has been teaching for 24 years total, 15 of those years teaching Theatre at Upland High and 8 years running the program on her own.
Michele makes it a priority that her students feel safe and welcome in her class, giving everyone the same opportunity to succeed. She loves Harry Styles, her dog, Eleanor, and her students, of course. Through the program, Michele shares her love of Theatrical Arts with her students and prepares them to go off into the real world after high school, whether they plan to pursue the Arts or not.
Education
At Upland High School we offer a truly unique environment for those who are passionate about all aspects of theatre. Between our wide ranges of performance classes and amazing technical theatre programs, our department trains well rounded and hardworking Thespians. Students emerge with self-confidence, public speaking skills, and great dedication that will be valuable no matter what path they take after graduation.

Shows and
Performances We put on three to five main shows a year. All students have opportunities to perform in Happy Holiday in December, and Best of Broadway in April. The other two to three shows change yearly to give more opportunities for students to find the part that’s right for them.

Competitions
Here at UHS Theatre, we take pride in our many opportunities for students to compete in theatre. In recent years, Upland has competed at CETA Southern High School Theatre Festival, MET Festival, Spotlight competition, and several other festivals. We annually host the California State Thespian Festival, where Upland Thespians excel while competing against students from all over the state.
